Speech and Debate tournaments give students valuable skills of research, confidence, organization, and more. We are raising funds for our tournament entry fees and our travel to Regionals to compete at the highest level.

It was another great tournament yesterday and our team has grown to 15 students. We took first and second in 4 of the five events and first and third in the final. 2 students have qualified for Regionals and 5 are halfway there, but we need your help to get there. Tournaments cost money as does traveling to California and unfortunately there is no school budget for clubs so we have to raise funds ourselves. All donations are tax-deductible.
We have seven returning members who are competing this year.
Kevin (senior) is an international student from Korea. Last year he competed mainly in Persuasive and placed 9th overall. This year, he is again competing in Persuasive as well as possibly monologue and impromptu.
Nate (senior) competed in Debate, Impromptu, Persuasive, and Monologue last year, placing 4th in persuasive. He will be competing in those events this year as well as possibly Open Interp.
Phoebe (senior) competed in all the events last year at least once. She placed 7th in monologue and 2nd in Open Interp. She's hoping to do even better this year.
Kinlie (senior) competed in OI last year and placed 1st at Regionals. She'll be defending her title and possibly adding Duo.
Lydia (Junior) did impromptu and Persuasive last year, placing 8th in Impromptu and 5th in Persuasive. She'll be competing in those events again this year and possibly adding Debate.
Spenser (Sophomore) was our sole competitor in Apologetics and he placed 4th overall. He's hoping to add a trophy this year.
Skylar (Sophomore) competed in Open Interp and placed 4th. She also qualified in Persuasive. She'll be doing OI and possibly duo this year with Kinlie.
Joining us this year are Connor (Sophomore) who plans to compete in Impromptu and Apologetics as well as possibly Debate and Persuasive, Chloe (Sophomore) who plans to compete in Persuasive, Samantha (Sophomore) who plans to compete in monologue, Sophia (Freshman) who plans to compete in monologue and OI, and Addi (Freshman) who wants to try everything.
Throughout the season - November to April, we will compete in tournaments to try and qualify for Regionals. The entry fee for tournaments ranges from $15.00 a competitor for speech events to $25.00 a team for debate and with a team this large, that is $100-200 for every tournament. The students must rank in the top 40% at two tournaments to qualify for Regionals. Our Regionals event is held in California so we have to raise money for travel, lodging, gas, and food, but it's a time the students never forget. Last year we took 10 students and returned with 13 medals and trophies. Our goal this year is to earn even more and we would love your help to get us there.
