From Anissa Ryland

In honor of my birthday, I am raising funds to feed our neighbors in need, especially those with children or vulnerable adults (including those with disabilities).

For many years now, my colleagues and I have volunteered to recover food from grocery stores and restaurants and stock pantries around central Texas with nutrition food. We serve preschools, community centers, people living in state supported living centers, teens and young adults in transition programs, families with young children, children and adults with disabilities, unhoused teens, and more. The need has been growing for some time but now we are at a critical juncture. With the rising cost of food and now the pause on SNAP benefits many vulnerable people, mostly children and adults with disabilities, will be without.

I can't think of a better way to spend my birthday than doing whatever I can to make some small difference and I ask you to support me in these efforts. Funds raised will support the growing demand for these pantries as more and more people go hungry in our own back yards.

Through these efforts (along with lots of wonderful volunteers) we feed almost 3,000 people in our community every week, at a cost of less than $25 per person. The generosity of the stores and the significant effort of volunteers keeps this cost very low. So you can feed someone for a week for just a $25 gift! We are always looking for ways to expand our efforts to reach even more people and your support can make a big difference.
