About a year after losing my last dog, Bindi came into my life at what felt like the perfect moment. Her previous owner, who had her since she was a puppy in 2020, was going to jail for attempted murder and she needed a home where she was loved and cared for. The first few months were focused on making her feel safe. She was dirty, had fleas, had no vet records whatsoever, flinched whenever something moved too quickly, and frequently woke up in the middle of the night trembling nonstop.

It's been a little over a year since I got her and (with the help of vets, trainers, and behaviouralists) she has made SO much progress! She no longer flinches or trembles and she loves playing with stuffed toys! She is even doing so well that she is starting service task training. With having no family in the state, she’s my entire world. She keeps me sane and in return she has shown nothing but kindness and joy.

Towards the beginning of 2025 she had a mass biopsy and the results we got were not good. She has a mammary tumor. Starting about the size of a pea, it has grown considerably in size over this past year and the vets are worried it will spread. The original plan was to have her mammary glands removed in June/July of 2025 but plans fell through due to my housing situation. My roommate at the time wanted to leave mid-lease and the new roommates I had brought in turned out to be extremely paranoid, accusatory, and aggressive. They put me through verbal, mental, and physical harassment to the point where authorities were called multiple times but were ultimately no help. The roommates refused to pay any bills after moving in, forcing me to use my entire savings (the funds I had saved for Bindi’s surgery) to keep the roof over our heads. Because of all this, I was also forced to move for our safety and sanity which left my bank account in the negative.

I have never asked for help like this but, as I’m trying to pick up the broken pieces of my life, I’m asking. Not for me, for her.

I’ve consulted with multiple vets about the surgery. Due to its length and complexity, they require at least two board certified surgeons which limits my options. Below are the estimates I was given at the best price, which includes a slight discount for working at a pet related company.

Total estimate $2847.93 - $3559.91

  • Mastectomy mass removal with histopathy - $1859.33

  • Ovariohysterectomy - $477.66

  • Other fees including anesthesia, post op and pre op medications, etc - $503.28

  • All other fees including lab work could be as high as $750-$800

  • This does not include other post-op fees like recovery or rechecks
