Hi y’all! It feels a bit weird to be doing this, especially during hard times, but I’m here because I thought it would be neat if, for my 26th birthday, I got a tattoo funded by friends and family; this would be the start of what I’m hoping will eventually become a sleeve — it will be olive branches going up and wrapping around my arm. I’m opting for a fundraiser so if you want to get me something but don’t know what, this is a great option. If you have the means, I would be so grateful. Even better, if we surpass the goal, I was hoping to donate any leftover money to Operation Olive Branch (@operationolivebranch on IG), a collective unity movement aiding Palestinian families in evacuating. My goal is to get this tattoo done in late October.
If you’re wondering, “August, why a sleeve of olive branches?” That’s a fair question — whether you’ve known me for a month or 5+ years, you know I love olives: eating them, reading about them, their wood, etc. I own so many pieces of cookware and jewelry made of olive wood and I’ve always found olives themselves delicious. But past that, olives are a paramount ingredient and symbol of many cultures, including my own—Italian—, Greek, Palestinian, Spanish, and so many more, and of course olive branches tend to allude to peace. Getting a sleeve of olives for me means a visible symbol of growth, embracing peace within myself (a lifelong exercise), and showing off something I’ve always loved and find great happiness in. I’m asking friends and family to help bc you all are a part of my growth and I love the idea of a tattoo funded by loved ones. Once again, if it’s within your means, I’d love your support, but I appreciate you just being here and reading this. Cheers, everyone!
